Prom Review
Th other day, I listened to This American Life's website to listen to a pod cast and do a review. The podcast that I listened to was titled Prom. This had four different stories having to deal with Prom and how it effects teenagers. The first story tells about prom in a small Kansas town. As Prom night came, all the Juniors and Seniors came and partied while a storm raged outside. The power went out as the storm raged and eventually news broke that a tornado had touched down. A third of the town had been destroyed as the teenagers had partied. The last story talks about a school in Wisconsin. They added a new ingredient to Prom. This secret ingredient changes Prom. Listen and see what it is. Overall, the audio documentary was boring. The first and last story are worth you time, but the middle two are mind numbingly boring. I would recommend skipping them. In general, the stories were not worth your time, but the content of the first two are very interesting. A must hear.

Who? The Beatles

This world famous English rock band possibly brought the world of music to what it is today. Formed in 1961 in Liverpool, the Beatles were one of the most popular bands in the world until their break up in 1970. The band members consisted of Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison. Their song "Love Me Do" is not only one of their greatest hits, but the song that is solely responsible for bringing them to mainstream British music. After they achieved recognition, they exploded in popularity and toured until 1966. Once they finally settled down, they produced some of their finest work in studio. Their album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is known to be their greatest album and is considered by many to be a masterpiece. Even though the Beatles broke up over forty years ago, their music remains popular to this day, even having a Rock Band video game for their greatest hits. For more on the Beatles click here
Friday!!

So, today's Friday and as you should know by now its time for something completely random. Today's lucky winner is a Finger Touching Phone Concept. If you really want to look like a dork, you can only hope this concept will become reality. Once you've gotten a phone surgically inserted into your hand, you simply put on the bracelet-like contraption that comes with it. Once this is turned out, it will project a keypad onto the inside of your hand. The idea is that your knuckles will separate each individual button. There is still a lot of planning to do before this concept becomes a reality, but lets hope no one actually buys it. One can only imagine the pretty price tag on this baby.

Cannon G11
This camera is everything you want... because it takes amazing pictures. Its so good that it'll make you feel like a real photographer. The G11 is not quite a professional's camera of choice, but it is as close as the average person can get. It is either a sick street camerca, but not for you everyday teenage girl.

The Rock and Roll Hal of Fame and Museum
Located on the shore of Lake Eerie in Cleveland, Ohio, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is known as the rock capital of the world. Some of the world's most influential artists have recorded their work there. Other people who have majorly influenced the music industry have played here as well, but this beautiful museum is moslty dedictaed to Rock and Roll
The Apple Magic Mouse

The brand new mouse by apple seems out of this world. This delicate, yet sturdy mouse is by far the best mouse made by apple ever. This isn't just a pretty mouse for your viewing pleasure (although it is pretty) but its what it lets you do that counts. Do you remember that little wheel your using on your mouse right now that scrolls? Imagine a touch sensitive mouse for that, no wheel! This mouse has it! A must know, this mouse looks nice, but it isn't quite as comfortable due to the low profile. It won't fit in your hand quite like my logitech mouse here. The scrolling is also a bit quirky, but its something that you will need to get used to. I recommend it to the all. Just because your a PC fanboy doesn't mean you should switch over. I'm sure it won't kill you to have ONE thing made by Apple in your house. This mouse works for both Mac and PC, so have fun using this baby when your working in applications like Digital Preformer or Grage Band.
Who? Gun N' Roses

The band of the week is Gun N' Roses! Known for songs like Sweet Child O' Mine, Welcome to the Jungle and November Rain. Guns N' Roses has been around since 1985. Formed in L.A. California by Axl Rose, this band is one of the most famous American Rock bands. Members of this band have come and gone, and there has been many controversies, but they still play. They have been known for their "relliousness" and for reviving the punk attitude-driven hard rock scene. Their albums Use Your illusion and Use Your Illusion II debuted at the same time and took #1 and #2 on the Bilboard 200. This made them the only band to have ever acheived such a feat. I guarantee you won't regret listening to them.

Death Magnetic Tour

In case you haven't realized this already, we here at Audiostruck are Metallica fans. Frankly, we don't care what you think about that. So here are some details dealing with the Death Magnetic Tour. Metallica is currently here in the U.S., which never seems to happen quite enough. If only they would come to Baltimore... But I digress. They're gonna be preforming here in the U.S. and Canada for the next few weeks. IF you love metal and want to experience a true metal concert, you'll do your best to grab some tickets. Lord knows these babies disappear in an instant, so be quick and get some for you and your friends. Dates can be found here on their website, http://www.metallica.com/page.asp?id=13367. Several are already sold out so hurry!

Where? Madison Square Gardens

Located in New York City, Madison Square Gardens is the largest arena is all of New York. It is home to the New York Knicks of the NBA and the New York Rangers of the NHL. It holds the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus when it comes to New York City and the NBA draft each year. This year, world-famous heavy metal band Metallica will be preforming there October 30 and November 13-14. I'm hoping to attend one of these dates myself because it is very rare for Metallica to visit nearby and I hope there are still tickets available. If your a Metallica fan and live near New York, you better get your soon, before they're all gone.

Zoom Q3 Videco Recorder

This brand new Video recorder by Zoom is truly impressive. Not only does it record your favorite band in video, but this cheap toy comes with two stereo condenser mikes for HD audio. This is by far the best video recorder i have seen. at least on that can easily fit into your pocket. This video recorder can be purchased on amazon.com for only $250. I recommend this if your looking for an inexpensive camcorder that specializes in audio and not video. The 640x480 display is not quite a work of art as the microphones, so this isn't your average youtube camcorder. Get it quick, I expect it'll be gone soon.

Who (Led Zeppelin)

Led Zeppelin is possibly the greatest rock band to walk to Earth. Formed in 1968, the band members included Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones. Their sound was unique in that it did not stay in one genre. They included multiple different sounds in their music, including reggae, funk, and blues. They incorporated all these different sounds into their original rock genre, to create a sound unique to the band. Famous songs include "Stairway to Heaven" and "Good Times, Bad Times." "Stairway to Heaven" is known as the greatest rock song of all time and is the most requested song ever on FM radio.

Term Check
1. Dynamic mike detects only sounds from nearby (good for interviews) and a Condenser mike detects all sounds from all over.
2. 1. Studio monitors are the bare sound, they give as close to the actual sound as possible 2. They can throw sound around the room 3. If you can make music sound good on them, you can make it sound good on anything (doesn't add sound)
3. A digital interface takes the data from the cables and converts it into music, then shoots it out to speakers
4. Reverb is when music is played in an area. Reverb is different in smaller areas than larger areas because the sound travels differently
5. Yes, this class ia fun

Band of the Week: Bullet for My Valentine
For our new section Band of the Week, the heavy metal band Bullet for my Valentine is our lucky winner. This recently emerging band is a Welsh metal-core band, playing on stage with bands like Metallica, Guns N' Roses, and Iron Maiden. Their previous 2006 album The Poison has sold over 1 million copies, and over 350,000 albums int the U.S. alone, a rare achievement for an emerging band. It has been called "one of the finest debut albums in rock history" among other things. Be on the look out for Bullet for My Valentine, they're gonna be big.
iPod Nano 5G

The new iPod Nano is a major improvement to the last generation and a next step for the Nano. One major improvement includes the addtion of a video camera on the back. This video camera records video in VGA resolution (680x480.) The resolution is perfect for putting videos on Youtube and Facebook, but otherwise, its not the most impressive thing I've seen. There are many other pocket cams that are far better on the market that will run you for the same price. But the iPod is not only a video camera, it also has the new genius to automatically create playlists for you. All in all, I was impressed with the new iPod Nano and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a simple music player.

Third Coast
The Third Coast International Audio Festival was created by Chicago Public Radio to acknowledge the work of outstanding audio documentaries. The organizers of Third Coast Audio Festival were motivated by the lack of attention given to audio documentaries and the attention given to film documentaries. There are seven different elements of Third Coast that have been created for the enjoyment of the listener. These include Re:sound and the Third Coast festival Audio challenge.

Artcoustic Crystal Loudpeaker

The new Artcoustic loudspeaker is a wall mounted loudspeaker designed with iPod owners in mind. These completely flat speakers have a dock for your iPod and will completely blow you away, but lets face it. Are the Swarovski crystals really necessary. Its a nice accessory for the rich, but I'll pass. You can buy speakers that are way better than this for $3700.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra
On Thursday December 10, 2009, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be playing at the Lyric Opera house. The T-SO rarely visits us here at Baltimore, so take the time to go and witness the amazing mixture of rock music and orchestra. Some famous songs include Wizards in Winter and Siberian Sleigh Ride. Trans-Siberian Orchestra was also featured in a Budweiser commercial which aired during a football game in 2007. Below is the video.
